Exploring Los Angeles
Something I definitely need to do more often this spring is get off campus. I realized after last semester that I had spent a disproportionate amount of time within the boundaries of USC and hadn’t taken advantage of the prime location. I’m a half hour Metro ride from the beach and a ten minute Uber ride from the heart of Downtown L.A., and I could probably count on my hands the number of times I’d ventured in either direction over the course of the fall semester.
While the fact that I was perfectly content staying confined to the area around USC speaks volumes about the sort of environment the school provides for students, the several times I explored new areas away from campus were some of my fondest memories from first semester. Watching the picturesque sunset on Santa Monica Beach, longboarding through Venice, winding through the expansive downtown shopping centers, and having a delicious three-course meal in 71 Above restaurant and lounge atop the US Bank Tower were all extraordinary experiences that I would recommend to anyone looking to make the most of their time at USC.
In my case, the time I have left at USC is dwindling, so I know I have to do everything I can to make it thrilling and memorable. Thus, I plan to get farther off campus more often. There’s always something to do in this city, and I’m surrounded by like-minded, audacious peers who are always up for an adventure. With this being said, I look forward to the remainder of my freshman year with anticipation of all the new and exciting experiences to come.
